2024 OPENINGS–KCSC SAILING INSTRUCTOR (SEASONAL)    

 

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
Needed – Sailing Instructor at a non-profit Community Sailing Center. 

·         Under supervision, the candidate will facilitate training at the Kenosha Community Sailing Center sailing programs, sailing teams, and volunteers. The candidate will also perform other related duties as required.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
 

·         Provides instruction and training to participants in the sport of sailing and other water safety techniques by implementing Sailing Center course curriculum. Participants are age 7 and up. 

·         Attends and assists in running Sailing Center events, regattas, races, and clinics as needed.  

·         Also assists in repairs and maintenance of equipment.

·         Program record keeping and updating senior sailing staff as to class participant’s progress and any facility issues.  

·         Adapts programs to reflect different levels of participant skill development and physical ability.  

·         Enforces and promotes Sailing Center safety guidelines. 
   

DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: 

 
Certification Requirements:


Valid CPR certification from the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized organization.

US Sailing Safesport

Powerboat license

It is preferred applicants have one or more of the following certifications at the time of hire or be able to achieve before classes begin:

            US SAILING Level 1 Small Boat Certification
            US SAILING Basic Keelboat Certification
            USGA Captain’s License with Sailing Endorsement 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Good knowledge of sailing techniques, rigging, tuning, physics of sailing and navigation rules. Knowledge of games, activities and drills used on the water to facilitate learning of sport specific skills. Effective oral communications skills.

Knowledge of and ability to enforce safety rules.

Ability to exercise good and safe judgment. 

Ability to work with individuals or groups of adults or children, including those with disabilities.

 

Hours and Additional Information:
Full and part time hours. May include evenings and weekends. Hours depend on student enrollment.

Compensation and Benefits:

$17.00 per hour if the individual has one of the above US Sailing Certificates. Without the certificates pay will be based on experience.

Employment dates:
Some hours begin in May. Full time begins mid-June. Full time ends mid-August. Part time may run through September.
